Instructor Bios
Kevin Takeda
Kevin is currently a Doctoral student at the Cleveland Institute of
Music studying with Gabriela Montero. He holds a Master’s of Music Degree from the
New England Conservatory, where he studied with Wha Kyung Byun and was a recipient
of the Dean’s Scholarship. Before that, he completed a Bachelor’s of Music Degree at the
Juilliard School, where his teachers were Matti Raekallio and Orli Shaham. There, was a
recipient of both the Kamiya Sisters Piano Scholarship and the Alan D. Marks Center
Scholarship. He is also a Music Academy of the West alumnus.
He began his piano studies at age 11, and shortly after at age 13 began attending
Interlochen Arts Academy High School under the guidance of Thomas Lymenstull. Since
then, he has gained prizes and recognition in many competitions, some among them are
the MTNA Piano Competition, the National Federation of Music Clubs Competition, the
Arthur Fraser International Concerto Competition, the Marian Garcia Collegiate
Competition, the Dubois National Piano Competition, the Eastern Music Festival Solo
Competition, and he was a National NFAA YoungArts winner. He has performed in
esteemed venues such as the Kennedy Center, Detroit Symphony Hall, Jordan Hall,
Lincoln Center, and Hahn Hall. Festival attendances include the Aspen Music Festival,
Music Academy of the West, Pianofest in the Hamptons, Bowdoin International Music
Festival, Art of Piano, and Southeastern Piano Festival. An avid chamber music
enthusiast, he recently performed Bartok’s Sonata for Two Pianos and Percussion and
Samuel Coleridge Taylor’s Nonet.
His teaching emphasizes healthy, efficient technique, musical clarity, and expressive freedom.
He has been teaching piano for 15 years, and his students have gained success in competitions
across the country as well as festival and music program admissions.

Guoanni Qin
Guoanni Annie Qin is an accomplished pianist who is pursuing her Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano performance
with Kathryn Brown at the Cleveland Institute of Music. She has graduated with a Master of Music degree from
The Juilliard School in New York City where she received the Van Cliburn Alumni Prize, the John Post Scholarship,
the Susan Rose Piano Scholarship, and the Arnold Levy Scholarship at the Juilliard School. Annie also holds a
Bachelor of Music degree from Oberlin Conservatory. During her undergraduate years, she earned several notable
achievements, including first prize in Oberlin’s Concerto Competition and the Rudolf Serkin Scholarship Competition.
She also received the Carol Nott Piano Pedagogy Prize and third prize in the inaugural Peter Takacs Beethoven Piano
Competition. Annie was a member of the Oberlin Contemporary Music Ensemble and served as a resident performer at the
Kendal Community at Oberlin.
Her orchestral engagements include performances of Rachmaninoff’s Second Piano Concerto with the Oberlin Orchestra
under the baton of Raphael Jimenez and with the Xiamen Song & Dance Symphony Orchestra led by maestro Xiaotang Xia.
Her recording of Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 with the Oberlin Orchestra has been selected for broadcast on
WQXR’s Young Artists Showcase, New York’s premier classical radio program. Annie was selected to participate in the
renowned PianoTexas Piano Festival, Rebecca Penneys Piano Festival, Gijon International Music
Festival Fellowship Program and the Gilmore Piano Festival Fellowship Program.
Annie was taught by Maestro Andrzej Jasinski, Pierre-Laurent Aimard, Paul Lewis, Dang Thai Son, Mikhail Voskresensky,
Matti Raekallio, Jerome Lowenthal, Robert Lewin, Alexander Kobrin, Stanislav Ioudenitch, Douglas Humpherys,
Haesun Paik, Alexander Korsantia, etc.
